today’s edition of Wes Anderson Nerdery is about the kids in The Royal Tenenbaums.
DID YOU KNOW:
Aram Aslanian-Persico (the actor who played young Chas) is a young scientist in real life, he’s very bright and smart. His room is modeled on the office of an accountant. As for the automatic tie-rack in Chas’ room: the idea is from Wes’ old friend in school who had an automatic tie-rack. According to Wes, having an automatic tie-rack really alienated his friend among his peers. (Haha)
Irene Gorovaia (young Margot) is discovered at American Ballet Theater or something. She’s a ballet dancer. The iconic zebra wallpaper in her room is taken from an Italian restaurant, Gino, in Lexington Avenue.
Amedeo Torturro (young Richie) is discovered at a prep school. He’s the son of actor John Torturro. He’s very bright, unexpected, and “neurotic in a funny way” according to Wes. During production, they often keep the camera rolling and inbetween takes, Amedeo would come up with a lot of new, different ideas for the scene and Wes would answer “uhh..um..there are reason why we cannot do it like that but I’m not going to explain it now, I’m going to tell you after we say cut”.
Grant Rosenmeyer (Ari) is a really professional young actor. He’s able to function like a real actor and contribute ideas that would enhance each scene. Wes even compared him to Mason Gamble - who did a really brilliant job as Dirk Calloway in Rushmore.
I don’t remember anything about Uzi :/

today’s edition of “DID YOU KNOW: the wes anderson-related nerdery”
DID YOU KNOW?
both Gwyneth Paltrow and Owen Wilson were wearing wigs in this film. During the production of The Royal Tenenbaums, Owen is preparing for another role as a member of army/navy (so he needs to have shorter hair) while Gwyneth is also preparing for another role that requires that she has long hair.
Luke Wilson, on the other hand, actually grew the full beard and Bjorn Borg hairdo. He’s also the only main actor from the film who did a rehearsal for the film (together with Wes and senior actor, Seymour Cassel, who played the role Dusty in the film)
The character Eli Cash is based on a short story/paragraph that Wes wrote years ago (it was the lines that Eli read for a public reading in the film.) the character is also somewhat loosely based on Cormac McCarthy.
The character Margot Tenenbaum is somewhat based on Franny Glass (#OBVIOUS). Note how both Franny and Margot have a very distinguished winter coat.
